Does splenectomy cause a high platelet count?

Splenectomy does cause a high  platelet blood count, the spleen regulates the removal of worn out blood cells.
so removal of the spleen can cause the body to produce a higher amount of white blood cells and platelets, because of the increase likeliness of infections.
