Will a rise in oil prices hurt the economy?

A rise in the oil and gasoline prices will have the following effects:

When gasoline prices rise, it becomes more expensive to buy gas, so less people will be able to afford it, less people will be buying.

Less money spent on gasoline means a lot of people will no longer be able to travel and therefore the economy will grow less because of this.
