What is the cause of depression?
One of the main ways to spot the symptoms of depression in yourself, or in others, is the learn what commonly causes depression. Many types of depression run in families, which means that it could be possible to "inherit" depression. Inheriting depression seems to be the case, especially when you start looking at the trends with bipolar disorder. Over the years families in which members of each generation develop bipolar disorder have been studied. The investigators found that those with the illness have a somewhat different genetic makeup than those who do not become ill. However, the reverse is not true. That is, not everybody with the genetic makeup that causes vulnerability to bipolar disorder will develop the illness. Apparently, additional factors, possibly a stressful environment, are involved in its onset and protective factors are involved in its prevention.
Major depression also seems to occur in generation after generation in some families, although not as strongly as in bipolar I or II. Indeed, major depression can also occur in people who have no family history of depression.
An external event often seems to initiate an episode of depression. Thus, a serious loss, chronic illness, difficult relationship, financial problem, or any unwelcome change in life patterns can trigger a depressive episode. Very often, a combination of genetic, psychological, and environmental factors is involved in the onset of a depressive disorder. Stressors that contribute to the development of depression sometimes affect some groups more than others. For example, minority groups who more often feel impacted by discrimination and are disproportionately represented. Socioeconomically disadvantaged groups have higher rates of depression compared to their advantaged counterparts. Immigrants to the United States may be more vulnerable to developing depression, particularly when isolated by language.

The benefits of home insulation
Home insulation is a necessary part of any well-maintained residence. Working in conjunction with your house’s heating and cooling system, insulation works to keep warm air inside during the winter and to retain colder air during the summer. Insulation installation is the best method for ensuring maximum comfort because it aids in adequate temperature control. Properly installed insulation also can save homeowners money by improving the effectiveness of heating and cooling systems, which creates lower energy bills.
Insulation installation often can be complicated, and working with a professional is usually the best choice. An insulation contractor has the knowledge and practical skills necessary to properly install the best type of insulation for any type of home. Attic insulation installation, for instance, is frequently a difficult undertaking for homeowners but can be effortlessly handled by an insulation contractor.
An insulation contractor also can guide a homeowner in determining which areas of a house require insulation installation. Some parts of a home may need additional amounts of insulation in order to attain the greatest possible level of energy efficiency. Depending on the type of dwelling, additional roof insulation or attic insulation may be needed. This can best be determined by consulting with an experienced contractor.
Fiberglass insulation is usually the best choice for any home, as it is considered to be the most cost-effective and highest performing form of insulation available today. Cost can be a major factor, especially when installing wall insulation because this task often requires a large amount of material. Fiberglass insulation is also a worthwhile investment because it is naturally flame-retardant, giving the homeowner piece of mind in the area of fire safety. Other types of insulation may retain moisture and lose their effectiveness over time, but a valuable aspect of fiberglass insulation is its non-absorbent, moisture-resistant properties. In addition, it does not deteriorate over time, making it a lifetime investment.
Proper insulation installation can save a tremendous amount of money over time by reducing the strain on heating and cooling units. When one considers the most important issues pertaining to their home, insulation must be amongst them.

Why you should consider ceiling insulation in your home
If you want to stay comfortably cool in the summer and warm in the winter than properly insulating your home is definitely something that you need to consider. Home insulation and especially roof insulation aid in the resistance of heat flow which prevents heat from leaving your home when it’s cold and entering your home when it’s hot. The reduction of heat flow allows your home to use less energy which reduces your monthly payments and adds to the value.
When you think of insulating your home, don’t limit the usage of insulation to only a few areas. Heat is trying to enter and escape from everywhere and it will find its way in or out if you overlook places like attics, ceilings, cathedral ceilings, basement ceilings, and garage ceilings. Cathedral ceiling insulation, basement ceiling insulation and garage ceiling insulation are often the most overlooked places within a home.
Some things to consider when choosing what type of insulation to use within your home are the amount of home insulation needed, the R-value of the insulation and the options available.
The amount of home insulation needed varies depending on where you live because of climate differences. Check with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recommendations for your area. The R-value is the label on the insulation and the higher the value the better resistance. Insulation choices range from fiber glass, wool, foam, cotton and cellulose with fiber glass and cellulose being used the most.
Thermal insulation is one of the most important components when picking out ceiling insulation types. Whichever choice, make sure that it is going to provide you with lasting comfort throughout you home and performs like it should. Quality insulation should continue to provide you with energy savings and keeping heat where it should or should not be for the life of your home.
Last, but not least, carefully consider how your insulation choice reacts to fire and moisture. Also, with energy savings on the mind of many people, certain insulations might come with a insulation rebate in response to lowering the overall impact on the environment.

How to install window insulation
As winter is upon us, so is the cool weather blowing through windows and causing heating cost to rise. Great ways to bring down those heating costs and keep the winter cool weather out is to install window insulation. A lot of ideas are on the market to allow every extra window in a home to get the proper insulation it needs. There are a variety of window insulation covering options and window insulation prices so there is sure to be one that is right for every home.
The first option is to use a window insulation kit. These are a kit that includes plastic sheets or films that are placed on the window themselves. This allows for the cool air to be trapped between the glass of the window and the plastic sheets or films. These plastic window insulation kits allow for a non-intrusive fix to the winter weather. These are very easy to install for any homeowner, and can be put on at the start of winter, and removed when the warmer weather hits. These kits are one of the easiest, and convenient option for any home owner to ensure the heat stays in the home where it belongs, and the cool weather outside. There are a variety of options even in these kits ranging from installs that go on the inside of the window, and the outside of the window. The prices and styles vary, giving an option for every budget.
There are rubber, weather stripping that can be placed around the edges of windows to ensure there are no cracks to allow the drafts to creep in. These are a very inexpensive way to put a form of insulation on any window. Even through they are easy to install, they have been known to remove paint or leave behind a sticky residue which may not be attractive. One can also pick up cellular shades which allow the light in but keep the weather out. These can be higher on the budget, though, and may not be an attractive choice for that reason. Another option, however, is to pick up heavy drapes or just layer the window in curtains. This allows for a thick protection at keeping the cold right where the windows are and not allowing them to flow into the living space. These can keep out drafts and come in a variety of styles for every look.
With the cool weather upon everyone, the need to keep it out where it belongs is a necessity. With the variety in window insulation options, everyone can find the right one for their home and their budget.

Which type of wall insulation should I use for my home?
Choosing home insulation is one of your most important decisions regarding your home. Whether you are building a new home or installing insulation in your existing home, you need to do some research on the proper kinds. With so many types of wall insulation available you want to have the safest and best insulation. To keep the room to room and outside noise down to a minimum you need to have an excellent acoustic insulation. When deciding on wall insulation, you also need to be aware of the basement wall insulation as well. Roof insulation that is of a high standard will even keep the sound of a heavy rainstorm down to a minimum. And the ceiling insulation will hold down the noise of the kids jumping up and down in their bedrooms.
Wall insulation isn't used only to keep down the noise. A more important reason to get the best insulation is to save energy. You want your home to stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The best insulation will do that for you. Another necessary quality of good insulation is moisture control. This is especially true when considering your basement wall insulation. Thermal insulation and cavity wall insulation are excellent for retaining heat and lowering those energy bills.
To add insulation to your existing home, there are two great choices. Sprayed foam or loose-fill insulation are easy to install without disturbing the rest of the house. If you are still building your home, you have many more choices. If your new home is not the traditional stick-frame house, it can be built using insulating concrete forms, insulated panels and concrete block insulation which will already have the insulation built right into the walls. This type of insulation is the highest quality by far.
For the stick-frame house, foam-insulated wall sheathings have many advantages. The foam is easy to cut, it guards against moisture on the inside walls, and constantly improves comfort and saves energy.
Before choosing the insulation, you need to know the R-values for your area. The U.S. Department of Energy has a Zip-Code Insulation Program that dictates where your insulation needs are based on your climate. The home should also be air sealed and have moisture control before being insulated.

Why is my cat peeing outside the litter box?
Cats pooping outside their litter boxes may have gastro-intestinal parasites or other digestive disorders that require veterinary intervention. I can’t stress enough how important it is to bring your cat in to be checked in. As with most things in life, it is better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your cat’s digestive health.
If you find that you are able to rule out a medical reason for your cat’s peeing or pooping problems, then you may want to take a look around the house in an attempt to identify any possible stressors that may have your cat upset. The most logical place to start is the litter box itself.
Is the litter box clean? You may need to remove the litter and actually scrub the floor and walls of the box to remove any amonia that may be detering kitty from using it. Then, of course, you will want to examine the litter you’re using. Some cats are sensitive to dust, while others have sensitive paws that harder litters can really irritate.
There are soft, organic litters out there that can literally solve this problem overnight. They’re a little more expensive, but if they can solve this major problem, I would assert that it’s well worth the investment.
Other things to look for around the house are threats to your cat’s comfort or safety. Another pet, a small child, or an abusive adult can wreak havoc on your beloved pet’s psychology. Likewise, take a look at your own schedule. Have you recently acquired a new job? Do you leave the house more often or stay away for longer durations of time?
Perhaps your cat’s little “presents” are just his or her way of telling you that you’re missed… and needed. Odd as it sounds, welcome to a kitty’s psychology (according to those “in the know,” anyway!)
If your cat is peeing outside the litter box, pooping on the carpet or in your bed, or likewise relieving itself in places which are obviously highly inappropriate, always look first at your cat’s health. Take her to the vet. Perhaps a dietary shift or some antibiotics are in order.

20 tips to help stop depression
Getting the support you need plays a big role in lifting the fog of depression and keeping it away. On your own, it can be difficult to maintain perspective and sustain the effort required to beat depression. But the very nature of depression makes it difficult to reach out for help. However, isolation and loneliness make depression even worse, so maintaining your close relationships and social activities are important.
The thought of reaching out to even close family members and friends can seem overwhelming. You may feel ashamed, too exhausted to talk, or guilty for neglecting the relationship. Remind yourself that this is the depression talking. You loved ones care about you and want to help.
• Turn to trusted friends and family members. Share what you're going through with the people you love and trust. Ask for the help and support you need. You may have retreated from your most treasured relationships, but they can get you through this tough time.
• Try to keep up with social activities even if you don't feel like it. When you're depressed, it feels more comfortable to retreat into your shell. But being around other people will make you feel less depressed.
•Join a support group for depression. Being with others who are dealing with depression can go a long way in reducing your sense of isolation. You can also encourage each other, give and receive advice on how to cope, and share your experiences. To locate a depression support group in your area, use the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance's

In order to overcome depression, you have to nurture yourself. This includes making time for things you enjoy, asking for help from others, setting limits on what you're able to do, adopting healthy habits, and scheduling fun activities into your day.
Do things you enjoy (or used to)
While you can't force yourself to have fun or experience pleasure, you can choose to do things that you used to enjoy. Pick up a former hobby or a sport you used to like. Develop a wellness toolbox
Come up with a list of things that you can do for a quick mood boost. Include any strategies, activities, or skills that have helped in the past. The more “tools” for coping with depression, the better. Try and implement a few of these ideas each day, even if you're feeling good.

Push yourself to do things, even when you don't feel like it. You might be surprised at how much better you feel once you're out in the world. Even if your depression doesn't lift immediately, you'll gradually feel more upbeat and energetic as you make time for fun activities.
Take care of yourself
Express yourself creatively through music, art, or writing. Go out with friends. Take a day trip to a museum, the mountains, or the ballpark.
Develop a wellness toolbox
Come up with a list of things that you can do for a quick mood boost. Include any strategies, activities, or skills that have helped in the past. The more “tools” for coping with depression, the better. Try and implement a few of these ideas each day, even if you're feeling good.
1.Spend some time in nature.
2. List what you like about yourself.
3. Read a good book.
4. Watch a funny movie or TV show.
5. Take a long, hot bath.
6.Listen to music.
7. Take care of a few small tasks.
8. Play with a pet.
9. Write in your journal.
10. Do something spontaneous.

What are the symptoms of teenage depression?
Increasingly common problems that teenagers face are teenage depression and teenage stress. Whilst a lot of the problems like drug abuse, eating disorders and teenage problems like ADHD, learning disorders, short height etc can ultimately result in depression; there are other factors, which can cause depression. These factors could be related to family or personal relationship stress, excessive academic pressure at school or home, bullying at school or even depression caused due to hormonal changes in the body. It is extremely important to recognise this problem at an early stage as teenage depression and teenage stress are the biggest reasons for teenage suicides or self-harm. In some cases it could also lead to reckless behaviour or violence on part of your teen. In most cases of depression the sufferer experiences low teenage self-esteem or a lack of confidence, which can severely impair a teenager's future growth and success.
Below are some of the symptoms that can help you recognise if your teenager is suffering from teenage stress or teenage depression.
Physical Characteristics: You can tell that your teenager is suffering from teenage depression or teenage stress if they often feel hopeless and angry, cry a lot more than usual, are constantly worried, lack energy and always feeling tired, suffer from insomnia, lack appetite, feel restless, show a complete lack of motivation or enthusiasm and stop doing things they used to enjoy. Similarly if they constantly complain of unexplained aches and pains like stomachache or headache, without any medical cause, it could also indicate stress or depression.
Social Habits: Another common symptom of teenage depression is avoidance and withdrawal from relationships and friends. Your teenager might try to avoid going to school as the teachers are too strict, or they do not have friends, or others make fun of them. They may also try and avoid other social gatherings and prefer to spend and increasing amount of time alone. Teenage stress can also be manifested in the form of reduced overall communication and introvert behaviour.
Performance: Your teenager could also show complete lack of concentration and try to find reasons not to do their homework or avoid school when they are suffering from teenage stress. In these circumstances it is crucial to probe if they are having a bad experience at school which is causing them excessive stress.
In most cases teenage depression is either the trigger or a result of some of the other teenage problems. Hence you need to understand the symptoms of all other teenage problems like eating disorders or drug abuse to understand the root cause of depression. When looking out for symptoms it is therefore important to look at all of them together, rather than individually, so you can get the best understanding of the state your child is in and can take corrective action if necessary.
